【ANN NEWS, LOS ANGELES】 A fatal crash occurred in downtown Los Angeles early on September 11 when a car traveling on Grand Avenue suddenly broke through a roadside guardrail and plunged from Upper Grand Avenue to Lower Grand Avenue below. The vehicle overturned and landed upside down, killing the driver at the scene.
The Los Angeles Police Department said the crash occurred at about 2:30 a.m. on Grand Avenue near 4th Street. The vehicle was traveling northbound on Grand Avenue when it veered off the road, crashed through the guardrail and fell to the roadway below. Police estimated the vehicle plunged about 40 to 50 feet, equivalent to roughly three to four stories.
ABC7 reported that the victim was a 30-year-old man and the only person in the vehicle. Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and pronounced the driver dead. No other injuries were reported.
Footage from the scene showed the heavily damaged vehicle overturned on Lower Grand Avenue, with debris scattered across the roadway and a section of the guardrail on the upper roadway destroyed. Grand Avenue was temporarily closed following the crash and reopened Friday morning.
Police have not yet disclosed what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The crash remains under investigation.
