【ANN NEWS, LOS ANGELES】
The Chinese American Museum and the Chinatown Branch Library will jointly present the July edition of “Children’s Storytime” on Thursday, August 27, at 4 p.m. U.S. Pacific Daylight Time. Children’s librarian Rita Law will read Broken by Asian American author X. Fang.
Broken tells the story of Mei Mei, who accidentally breaks her grandmother’s favorite cup and becomes afraid of what will happen when the truth comes out. Will Grandma be angry and send her away? Out of fear, Mei Mei initially hides what happened. However, when the innocent family cat, Mimi, is mistakenly blamed for the damage, Mei Mei can no longer bear the guilt. Through vivid illustrations, Broken captures the story’s comedic tension as well as the comforting warmth of a grandparent’s acceptance and forgiveness.
X. Fang is an award-winning Taiwanese American illustrator, visual artist and children’s book author. Born in Taichung, Taiwan, she grew up in Doraville, Georgia.
