【ANN NEWS, LOS ANGELES】 The U.S. Food and Drug Administration(FDA)updated its investigation into an E. coli outbreak linked to frozen blueberries on September 11, confirming that the recall of Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend sold at Walmart has been expanded. The affected product was distributed to 26 states across the United States as well as Puerto Rico.

The recall involves 10-ounce packages of Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend, containing strawberries, blackberries and blueberries. Consumers should specifically check the packaging for:

Lot Code: 6040 01-6
Best By: February 9, 2028(February 9, 2028)

The FDA said the affected product was supplied by Chilean company Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. The latest confirmed distribution area includes Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Puerto Rico. California is currently not on the confirmed distribution list.

So far, 17 cases of E. coli O145:H28 infection have been linked to the frozen blueberry outbreak, with six people hospitalized and no deaths reported. Cases have been reported in Florida and Georgia. Of the 13 patients interviewed, 11 said they had eaten frozen blueberries before becoming ill.

The FDA is urging consumers to check their freezers. Anyone who finds a product from the recalled lot should not eat it and should either throw it away or return it to the place of purchase for a refund. E. coli infection can cause severe abdominal pain, diarrhea, fever, nausea and vomiting, and some infections may lead to serious kidney complications.
