【ANN NEWS, LOS ANGELES】 Southern California’s Los Angeles area has recently experienced a cluster of seismic activity. According to records from the U.S. Geological Survey(USGS), a total of 90 microearthquakes occurred near Lennox and Westmont between 8:05 p.m. on September 11 and 2:30 p.m. on September 12, ranging in magnitude from 1.0 to 2.7.
The earthquake swarm was concentrated primarily near the Newport-Inglewood fault zone, which extends from Culver City to Newport Beach. Residents in several areas, including Crenshaw, Huntington Park, Bell, West Adams, Mid-City and Gardena, reported feeling slight shaking.
Notably, a magnitude 3.2 earthquake occurred near Compton along the same fault zone just one week earlier. However, USGS information indicates that similar clusters of microearthquakes cannot be regarded as a predictive signal that a larger earthquake is imminent.
No injuries or property damage have been reported.
